PostSubject: Renting out Buildings and Contracting Construction   Wed Dec 06, 2017 8:55 am

So, for a long time I've always either considered doing this, or watched other people do this to an unsuccessful degree. What I'm talking about is players just creating massive complexes, owning doors and selling out rooms for a rent-fee or anything in between.
I think it's a neat idea for those that are too inclined to gathering resources or any other aspect of Decay, as they don't have much time to settle down and make an honest, good dupe or house or structure or what ever. But at the same time, it's a bit counter-intuitive to contract or rent a house from someone when the next best thing is to just find an empty 4x3ft shack and throw up a fading door while you board up windows.

I suppose it boils down to a lack of role-play inclination here in the current day community, I dunno. The idea seems solid, but the practicality of renting or building for pay isn't very incentivized, especially with how easy it is to build your own crappy little "It'll do." base or shack. I suppose there's also the factor of wanting a prime-spot on a map, like the town in Csc, but if anyone was to go out of their way to own all or most of the adobe houses and rent them out, someone would probably just complain that they aren't USING the buildings or some similar complaint.

These are just my thoughts, and I figured I'd try making an actual discussion thread because they're a rarity now-a-days.

Now that the server is pretty much Semi-Serious Roleplay, there should'nt be too many complaints about 'buildings not being used'... I think the problem stands with the nomad landlords who don't stay still for the buildings to be rented and keys to be bought. I was guilty of this myself for a time as i had a Advanced Dupe of the exact idea You're describing. Although i had only done it for a few days it worked out rather well when i wasn't out scavenging.

i'll need time to think about other ways to approach this. Good topic, Gnomp

That's sort of another topic I wanted to get into, probably in a different post. It seems like, for the most part, people are pretending that the server is in a state of "Semi-serious" roleplay, but I never really see anyone doing anything of the sort. Occasionally there'll be a cool interactive shop or casino, but those are typically from the same people.

It's mostly to blame that I don't interact with any players out of genuine fear that any small action I make will lead to me being hunted and destroyed by a main faction (paranoia at its finest) but even that irrational fear is grounded in experience.

I always try to interact with people from a "case to case basis" so to say.

If you're a roleplayer I'll interact with you in a roleplay way.

If you're a regular player enjoying the server I'll interact with you in that aspect etc.

IF you're an grade A asshole I'll interact with you in that aspect aswell.

And as a member of a "The Oligarchy" I can safely say this to you Gnomp, don't be afraid to interact with us we won't kill you for a small action ( At least I won't and I do my best to keep my fellow members from doing so aswell because we're trying to change our ways and the way people look at us) As I see it we go after the wrong doers, people who steal cases, kill new players, scam new players etc... Even tho we sometimes do scummy stuff ourselves but for a "good reason"

I also really think you could bring more RP to the server Gnomp, since you got some awesome pac3s at hand, and I'm guessing you got a cool backstory for each one of them ( if you don't just make it up as you go I guess ) and I would actually enjoy participating in such roleplay with you.

But I really think you should try and overcome your fears! And don't let that hold you back because you got so much to offer (at least I think you do)

If there is any grammar mistakes etc it's because I'm swedish trust :^)

Yeah, I totally agree with you on that, interaction on a case-to-case basis is really good. I used to do a whole bunch of scenarios and small treat type things to spice up the game, but I gave up after a while due to a string of bad circumstances involving staff-infighting before the recent change of management.

There was also an occasion where I was raided while playing bartender, I ended up putting a hole in my wall because of pissed I got at the whole ordeal. It was the logic that pissed me off the most, "Oh, a philanthropic bartender giving drinks and quests to new players....RAID". It especially bothered me that it happened during the server's roleplay recession.

But yeah, I plan on doing some cool stuff soon picking up where Haphazard Mining left off. Of course it'll have a cool spin on the whole mining speel.

The one issue I see with people nowadays is that if someone even makes a town that you need to pay to enter people immediately go " RAID RAID RAID RAID" just because they have the reason to.

It's a fundamental shift of focus from leisure to active gameplay styles. Most players don't come into the game wanting to make stories, they just want the stories to be there. It's ONLY a game, I think, so because of that way of thinking, you get a bunch of people solely wanting to just play a game. There's no real story or anything beyond the raided being a "bag of loot" I think.

It's just impersonal, and it's not the game's fault, it's just the new generation of play.

That's where "case by case" interaction come in.

The more you do "case by case" interaction the more the playerbase get used to it and eventually they'll join in, The server is pretty much a puppy at this point and it still has awhile to go before its fullgrown and ready to out in the dog kennel alone :^) WE MUST CHERRISH THIS PUPPY, FEED THE PUPPY!

Not sure if I somewhat made my point, but yes trust.
